Summer Match Series – Hucklesbrook (15th September)

8 members fished on a sunny but windy day where mainly perch and roach filled the nets. A good day was had by all.

1st Keith Baker  19lbs 6oz
2nd Chris Greenhow  13lbs 10oz

Summer Match Series – Holtwood (1st September)

On a quiet overcast day with occasional sunshine eleven members filled
all pegs on Shambles plus one peg on Bascombes. At least it was quiet,
until a tractor-mounted pile-driver put in fence posts in the next
field. This gave most of us a possible excuse for a rubbish day!
However, the top three were miles ahead with modest weights led by Keith
Baker (6lb 0oz) taking a mixed net of crucians, roach and a couple of
tench on float-fished maggot. Newcomer Howard White (5lb 1oz) was
runner-up with five tench on the feeder and Keith Rawlings (4lb 3oz)
took mostly roach from Bascombes peg 17. Highlight of the day was a
large grassnake swimming to and from the island on Shambles.   The next
match open to all members is on Hucklesbrook (Thursday 15th Sept).
Please contact Dave Perkins (07598861573) by the Tuesday to book a peg.

Jon Bass (11lb 4oz) topped Section B on Millers Pool taking five tench plus small roach and rudd to beat Alan Snook (6lb 12oz) who had three tench and more roach and rudd. 5th Over-55s Match Wedgehill (2nd June)

Fifteen  members attended with five on the Bottom pond and two sections of five on the Middle pond. Conditions looked good as the temperature rose on a bright sunny day, but the fishing was surprisingly slow for most. The carp landed had recovered well from recent spawning. On Middle pond Chris Monk (53lb 1oz) won in his first entry to the Series taking carp on a pellet waggler float at regular intervals throughout  the day from peg 17 with Jon Bass (41lb 10oz) runner-up in A section, including a bream which leapt out 4 times on its way to the net! Dave White (43lb 8oz) took B section using several tactics to take advantage of a good draw on peg 24. Next door Dave Perkins (20lb 2oz) struggled to get the carp interested in feeding, along with most other members drawn on the Middle pond. Keith Baker (8lb 13oz) had yet another section win taking mainly small roach in C section on the Bottom pond and now looks a clear favourite to win the Series, though pushed hard on the day by Colin Robinson (8lb 8oz). Fourteen members were split equally between Shambles and Millers Pools. After recent heavy rain the day was sunny, warm and mostly calm. Shambles provided one nice catch of crucians plus four small tench to Mike Gotobed (7lb 2oz) on peg 4 pushing Mike 2lb clear of the next competitors and winning the section. Millers Pool saw the tench quite difficult to tempt and very few roach, rudd or perch were caught, though large numbers of small-fry were basking and scattering on the surface. Keith Baker continued his fine form (10lb 13oz) landing his best brace of tench shortly before the final whistle to win the other section and finishing just ounces ahead of Barry James. The fishery looked smart after a recent grass cut though submerged weed in Shambles and Bascombes is growing fast and will soon require attention.
