Horseport

Brief description of fishery:

A relatively short stretch of the Avon that produces far more specimen fish than a venue of this size could be expected to. The main species present are barbel, chub, dace, pike and roach. It is the latter that are the real draw in the colder months with many 2lb plus specimens caught each year. The water extends to each side of the A338 flyover and it is this which has probably kept the roach shoals safe from the predators that have ravaged roach shoals on many other stretches of the river. The smooth, deep channels that flow through throughout are perfect for trotting and once the weed growth dies back it is this method, with breadflake or casters as bait, that accounts for many superb redfins.

Twenty four hour fishing is available to members targeting coarse fish and sea trout.

  • Coarse Fishing: 16th June – 14th March
  • Salmon: 1st February – 31st August (catch & release only)
  • Sea Trout: 15th April to 31st October
  • Brown Trout: 1st April – 15th October (catch & release only)
  • Entry/Exit: 1 hour before sunrise to 1 hour after sunset unless you hold a valid River Night Permit in which case 24 hour fishing is permitted
